1. In My Computer, right-click the volume to defragment (usually Local Disk (C:) ), and then click Properties.
2. Under the Tools tab, click Defragment Now... .
Once you have launched Disk Defragmenter, from the Action menu, select Defragment to start defragmenting, or Analyze to see if defragmentation is needed.
In either 2000 or XP, you may also enter the following into a command line, assuming c: is your hard drive: defrag c:
